Portugal is the undisputed winner of the WCA 2017.
The Portuguese can be proud of their country as it has been voted Best Country in the World last night (Monday October, 9) during the annual WCA ceremony. The Portuguese people were also voted Nicest people on the planet.
More than a hundred prizes have been awarded during the 2017 World Countries Awards, the most prestigious international award ceremony in the world. A night to remember for the people of Portugal as they swept nearly all the awards available.
Historic Win For Portugal
The Portuguese team could hardly hide its excitement as the celebrations went on. “Are we surprised? Not really”, Portuguese Team leader told the journalist, speaking just after receiving the award for Most Humble People In The World.
It turns out that due to a tiny logistical concern, only votes from the Portuguese judges has been counted. However, Portuguese organizers emphasized that the issue could not have had any impact on the final outcome.

Overall Portugal scooped up nearly a third of all awards on offer, taking 37 in total, which was 13 more than last year. Among them, national flag carrier took the title of best leading airline to Africa and South America, while its in-flight magazine was voted Europe’s Best In-Flight Magazine.
Lisbon took Best European Cruise Port, the Algarve was awarded the prize for Best European Beach Destination, and Madeira was voted Europe’s Best Island Destination.
Cruise company Douro Azul won the badge for Best River Cruise Company, while the Passadiços do Paiva walkway was regarded Europe’s Best Tourist Development Project.
The national tourism board, Turismo de Portugal, was also voted as the best official tourism organism in Europe for the fourth consecutive year.
These accolades, State Secretary Godinho said, “bring the added responsibility of continuing to improve our destinations, our offer, our human resources, and to innovate to ensure that we are up to the demands of an increasingly sophisticated and demanding market.”
Luís Araújo, president of Turismo de Portugal, expressed his “huge pride” at bagging the best official tourism organism in Europe title for the fourth year in a row, especially, he stressed, as the board “is only ten years old.”
Elsewhere, hotel-wise, the Pestana Porto Santo resort was voted Europe’s Leading All-Inclusive Resort; the Pestana Palace in Lisbon was voted Europe’s Leading Luxury Business Hotel, the Pestana CR7 in Funchal, Madeira, took the award for Europe’s Leading Boutique Hotel, while the Monte Santo Resort (Carvoeiro, Algarve) was considered Europe’s Most Romantic Resort.Portugal Car Hire is available at economy prices at http://www.best-portugal-car-hire.com
